ADOPTION / FOSTERING PROCESS
FOSTERING
No previous
experience necessary.
Fostering entails looking
after the dog for a period from one day to approx. one month depending
on the dog.
You will need to have
secure fencing, and gates.
Luv-a-Lab trainers will
help you to teach basic commands if the dog doesn't have any previous
training.
You will need to walk
the dog daily and allow the dog to be part of your family.
The dog will need to
sleep indoors, in a kennel or a suitable sheltered area.
Luv-a-Lab will provide
collar, lead, headcollar (if needed), some food and Vet care (if required).
ADOPTION
You
will have a one week trial with the dog, to ensure that the dog is happy
in your home and you are happy with the dog. We do try very hard
to match appropriate dogs with families to minimize upheaval to the dog.
Luv-a-Lab will bring
the dog to your home and inspect your property helping you to settle your
new dog.
Once the week trial is
over the transfer of ownership forms will be forwarded to you and the
applicable fee that appeared in the advert will need to be paid.
Once this has been done
you will receive a confirmation of your ownership in the post.
You will then need to register the dog with your local council.
All our dogs come to
you, desexed, microchipped, vaccinated wormed and deflead.
You will need to have
bedding, bowls, food and toys ready for your new dog.
We strongly advise that
gentle method obedience training be sought for your new dog (no choke
chains etc)
Note: If for any reason your circumstances change and you are no
longer able to able to keep your dog, all you need to do is to contact
us and we will happily rehome your dog. Under no circumstances must
your dog be dumped or surrendered to a shelter.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER A DOG IS RESCUED?
All rescued dogs are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated,
and treated for worms and fleas. They then enter foster care where they
are given the love, attention and basic training they need to settle into
normal family life. An assessment of their temperament and behaviour can
also be made during this time, so that the dogs needs can be best
matched with a potential home. During this time rescues are advertised
via email and interested potential adopters may make enquiries and meet
the dog. If a person or family like the dog when they meet him or her,
and we believe that the dog and the home environment on offer are a good
match, a one-week trial commences. This allows the potential adopters
and the dog to live together for a short time to see if they are able
to meet the dogs needs, and if the dog fits their lifestyle.
